Rethinking assumptions about delivery of healthcare: implications for universal health coverage

This BMJ analysis points out the absence of UHC indicator that explicitly monitors household and community participation and action for health. The effective engagement of the demand side of UHC build strong, resilient and responsive health systems, and it is well recognised internationally as we can see from Dr Tedros' statement, "health is made and sustained by families" in their homes and communities. The author highlights the importance of community participation and calls for the inclusion of at least one explicit target and indicator on community participation in health promotion and wellbeing in the official UN SDG Indicator Classification.
